The Prince George's County Drug Policy Coalition Student Scholarship Honorees Receive Care Boxes from Suntrust.

Fort Washington, MD -- November 23, 2021--The Prince George's County Drug Policy Coalition, Inc (PGCDPC) in partnership with Suntrust Bank (now Truist) was delighted to share the evening with bank executives to support our 13 scholarship award honorees. Ms. Sharol Henry (Vice President and Sr. Branch Leader) other bank executives Ms. Leslie Rush (Camp Springs Branch), School Board member Edward Burroughs, and some of our student honorees and parents were back in the area to accept their "care boxes" from the Indian Head Highway Branch.  The care boxes included dormitory supplies needed by the students (such as: towels, sheets, socks, soap, hats, scarfs and gloves etc.)  

Students or parents representing the University of Miami, Towson University, Morehouse University, and the University of Maryland were in attendance. The other Coalition student honorees will pick up their care boxes through mutual time arrangements with Suntrust bank.  Vice President Sharol Henry told everyone, "We hope to make this an annual tradition."  Dr. Campbell, President of the Prince George's County Drug Policy Coalition, Inc. thanked all of the attendees and said, "We are so excited that Ms. Henry and her team selected our nonprofit for this community project.  We are looking forward to working with them for many years to come."

🔥Multi-Grammy Award-Winning Gospel Artist Hezekiah Walker Establishes Center for Gospel Music at Virginia Union University

RICHMOND, VA – Virginia Union University (VUU) will launch the Hezekiah Walker Center for Gospel Music at Virginia Union University. The academic center is the first of its kind in the United States. It will provide education and resources to help musicians and budding gospel artists to learn the cultural and business aspects of gospel music and the industry. Courses will be available to all VUU students and a variety of certification courses related to work in the industry will also be available to the general public.  

Walker, a second-year student of the Virginia Union University’s Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology said, “the strong theological training I’ve received here at Virginia Union during the past two years has helped to shape my ministry.” He continued, “My goal is to give back to the school that has poured so much into me, by helping emerging gospel artists learn the business, as well as theological aspects of the gospel music industry.”

“Gospel music is an important part of our culture and VUU is honored to partner with  Walker to create a central hub for the study, writing, and preservation of gospel music. Walker has poured his spiritual gift and innovative ideas into the development of courses and events planned for the Center,” said Dr. Hakim J. Lucas, President and CEO of Virginia Union University. “VUU is growing to meet the changing career interests of our students by creating academic programs where the workforce demand is high or where students can explore opportunities in STEM, history, or the arts.”

The primary purpose is for the Hezekiah Walker Center for Gospel Music at Virginia Union University is for all components of gospel music to work cohesively to blend our vast areas of ability and excellence in the knowledge of the arts. Students will learn through the study of sacred arts and how it relates to African heritage; explore music and worship traditions that promote understanding of biblical texts in faith-building; and participate in several planned live recordings to be produced under the direction of Walker and VUU Choir director and award-winning gospel producer, Elder J. David Bratton.

The Center will launch in June 2021 and is an extension of Walker’s mantra, “And Because God is the greatest power, we will not be defeated!”

After months of hard work and dedication, we are delighted to officially announce the launch. The site now has a new responsive web design that makes web pages render well on a variety of devices (smartphone, iPad, tablet) and desktop windows or screen sizes including a Smart TV. 

Our goal with this new website is to provide our visitors and members with an easier way to learn about our services, free resources, and allow members to support each other through online conversation and event-based networking, etc.

The new website is interactive and gives better access to new features like; Events including Zoom meetings, Profile Page Design (adding a Bio, Service, Website, etc.) + Blogs/News/PSAs + Celebrity Highlights + Bookstore + Music Store + Chat Room + Prayer Room + Job Board + Videos + Partners/Sponsors + Scholarships & Grants + More... 

Amongst the new features, the site contains integrated social media buttons for Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin to foster improved communication with external social media platforms. Members can now post their content in categories of Blogs, Articles, News, Press Releases, Classifieds, or Public Service Announcements to help the Media and Journalists identify what they need to publish, etc.
