The Obamas served food at Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, DC.

President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Sasha Obama lined up to serve dinner to residents of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Northwest on Wednesday. As he served on Wednesday, the President shook hands, laughed, and chatted with residents about sports, among other things. Awesome day!!!

Delegate Tony Knotts Hosts 2nd Annual Annapolis Day for Students.

Delegate Tony Knotts brings high school students back to Annapolis for a Mock Session to learn how the legislative process works in conjunction with the National Harbor Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Henry’s Soul Café, and Prince George’s County Drug Policy Coalition, Inc.

This event will take place on Saturday, November 12, 2016 in Annapolis, Maryland from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m at the Lowe House Office Building, Annapolis, Maryland. After such an enormously successful pilot program last year, Delegate

Knotts and the event sponsors hope to build on the event to encourage more students to learn how the legislative process works and glean a greater awareness of the political process.

Through a mock session in Annapolis, students have the opportunity to discuss selected bills, cast their votes, and understand the importance of having their voice heard on issues of critical concern to them and their community. Schools invited to participate include Crossland High School, Friendly High School, Oxon Hill High School, and Potomac High School.

Delegate Knotts wants to continue to focus on high school students who may not normally be interested in government. “Our goal is to provide greater exposure for youth in the areas of policy and government.”

Maraya Burks, a student with National Harbor Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is looking forward to this year’s event, “Annapolis Day was amazing! I have an interest in political science and social justice issues and this event allowed me to experience how House and Senate Bills are presented and move through the legislative process. I also learned about the role of advocacy and the importance of having well developed facts to argue and debate effectively. I look forward to attending again this year!
